Pilarcitos Creek Restoration Day

This event is made possible by the generosity of Damasco and Associates, 700 Monte Vista Lane, Half Moon Bay.

Please join us, and bring your friends, neighbors, gloves and sun screen for a day of trash cleanup and non-native plant removal near Pilarcitos Creek. We'll talk about our local flora and fauna and how we can continue to ensure the protection of open space in Half Moon Bay. We'll trade restoration stories and share the fun of keeping the sensitive habitat areas of our town clean. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Meet at 9:45 am in the parking lot of the Stone Pine office park, 120 Stone Pine Rd, Half Moon Bay, and finish up by noon.

We'll provide gloves and trash bags. Wear layers and sturdy shoes.

The workshop will be held at the United Methodist Church, 777 Miramontes St, Half Moon Bay. Meet for the tour at the corner of Poplar & Railroad Ave; parking at Poplar Beach.

Songbird & Seabird Workshop & Walk

Back by popular demand, Alvaro Jaramillo will lead a workshop to study behavior, field marks, ecology and migratory patterns of local birds and then lead us on a walk in the field.

Songbird & Seabird Workshop 1–2:30pm

Seacrest School, 901 Arnold Way, HMB. Leader: Alvaro Jaramillo, HMB biologist, life-long birder, eco-tour guide to the Americas, and author of Field Guide to the Birds of Chile and New World Blackbirds. Donation: $15. Seniors $5. Under 18 free.

Wavecrest Birdwalk 3–5pm

Meet at the Smith Field parking lot at the end of Wavecrest Road. The Bird Walk is free for everyone. Dress in layers, wear sturdy shoes, and bring binoculars if you have them. Both events are suitable for families.

Railroad Right of Way Restoration Workday

Meet at the corner of Poplar and Railroad Avenues. Students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult; no more than five students per responsible adult. We will have light refreshments, gloves and a few tools. Wear sturdy shoes and avoid knit fabric clothing. Please contact the Coastside Land Trust with any questions.

Wavecrest Workday

Come for a fun day out on the bluff tops at Wavecrest. We will be tromping around picking up trash and removing invasive seedlings. Gloves, bags and snacks will be provided. Bring as many helpers as you can find and wear good sturdy shoes and layers. Helpers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Meet at the the Smith Field parking lot at 9:45 so we can check you in, go over the plan for the day and get started at 10 am. Should be a beautiful time of year out at Wavecrest; we look forward to seeing you there!

Raptor Workshop & Wavecrest Bird Walk

Raptor Workshop 1–2:30pm at Sea Crest School, 901 Arnold Way, Half Moon Bay

Please join us for an exciting workshop led by Alvaro Jaramillo, local biologist, life-long birder, eco-tour guide to the Americas, and author of Field Guide to the Birds of Chile and New World Blackbirds. Come learn about the Coastside birds of prey: hawks, eagles, falcons, kites and owls. Study field marks, behavior, ecology and migratory patterns. Find out how to tell them apart and where to locate them. Light refreshments will be served.

Wavecrest Bird Walk 3–5pm; meet at Smith Field at the end of Wavecrest Road, Half Moon Bay

Come stroll through this beautiful bluff top open space, lead by Alvaro Jaramillo and Gary Deghi, HMB wildlife biologist, environmental consultant and Sequoia Audubon member. Apply your workshop skills and identify birds and other wildlife. Warm beverages and cookies will be served at the end.

Rainy-day plan: In case of rain, the indoor workshop will proceed as scheduled 1 to 2:30. Because the rain comes and goes quickly, Alvaro and Gary will decide about proceeding with the walk when we meet at Smith Field.

Suggested donation for Workshop: $15, seniors $5, under 18 free. Wavecrest Bird Walk: free. Bring binoculars, dress in layers and wear sturdy waterproof shoes.
